Mommy's favorite

A conversation between mommy and jade.
- You are my favorite, jade! 妈妈最喜欢你了!
- No, that's not correct. 不对不对
- Then who's my favorite? 那妈妈最喜欢谁呢?
- Daddy is your favorite! 妈妈最喜欢爸爸。

Last October Weekend

Last weekend in October, we had the first snow of the year.
Uncle Owen came to SLC for an interview, and we got to visit him for a couple days.
Jade had fun at the Halloween party in the mall.
She got to play with glue sticks, listen to Halloween stories, and sit on giant pumpkins.
We even got a free family pass to Heehaw Farm :)

Nice little weekend

Jade and Eli went on a little date to the Farmer's market.
They are so cute handing hands together.
Jade played with mommy's chap stick very happily.
Now that the weather is colder, hotpot is back on table, almost every week.
Megan bought this sticky fruit, called Durian. It tastes like stinky tofu.
John doesn't think so. He thinks it's creamy sweet nastiness.
He tried some and didn't throw up.
Jade came back from church and found herself a nice spot in daddy's truck.

The Promised Ice Cream

Here's daddy's facebook post about the whole event.

"I had promised Jade ice cream with lunch, and I had a free frappe from McDonald's coming to me. So we went to the play place and I got a caramel frappe and gave it to Jade. Most of you are probably already sighing at my stupidity. She drank about a quarter of it with her chicken nuggets and then went off to play. When we were leaving she wanted some more. Not having had a single sip myself, I gave
it to her to have a little more. I planned to dump it in the trash on the way to the car. Well I had won a free redbox movie so we stopped there and while I found Kung Fu Panda 2 for her she managed to drain the rest of the frappe. At that point I was thinking, wow that's a lot of sugar I hope I can still get her to take a nap in an hour. Well, she had missed her nap the day before, and an hour later the sugar crash was in full effect. It was a fight, but she went down for a nap. Although she should have been really tired she only slept for half the time she usually does. No big deal. 9pm rolls around and this girl is still bouncing off the walls. I'm thinking that it can't possibly be the sugar. It's been 8 hours since she ate that. Then it hit me, I quickly Googled it, and my fears were confirmed. Blame my sheltered Mormon life if you want, but I didn't realize that the caramel frappe would have caffeine in it. I gave my toddler 16 ounces of caffeinated caramel ice cream. She is beyond giddy. If she took an ADD test right now she would set new records."

FYI jade, here're people's comments.

Little smartie pants

As part of Jade's bed time routine, we talk about what she did during the day. I apply the Berlitz method of language teaching in our conversation, which is to ask lots of wh- questions. She can pretty accurately recount her whole day activity with lots of details. I'm amazed at how quickly her language is developing. I'm also amazed by the fact that she can carry on a nice long conversation with me. Such a smart kid!

Conference Weekend

Mommy took Friday off and took the FSO test with daddy. It's daddy's third try and mommy's first. Mommy will probably fail miserably this time. Hopefully third time is the charm for daddy.

We continued our conference week end tradition and made a big breakfast while listening to conference. We also made dumplings for lunch. Poor Daddy is feeling sick. And he even got a flu shot. Hopefully we won't all get his germs.

Love the fall colors, the coolness during the day, but not the cold air in the morning and at night.

Finally some pics of John on his bike

Our neighbor and former landlord Braxton Wilhelmson is a photographer. He had an assignment to photograph a bunch of different sports. I volunteered to do a shoot with him of me riding the trails at The Canyons Bike Park in Park City.  I wound up pushing my bike up the same small sections of trail a few dozen times trying to get decent shots. In the end we did OK. Next time, and I hope there is a next time, I'll be a much more exciting model to shoot :)

Pushing the bike back up the hill for yet another take.
