Babysitters guide to crazy Carr kids of doom :)

This is a note John wrote to help our babysitter with the kids. It's a great summary of where they are at in life :-) I hope Jade and Jack have fun reading it in 20 years :-) We love you both!

Babysitters guide to crazy Carr kids of doom :)

Jack

  • His schedule: Sleep -> Eat -> Play -> Sleep
  • He eats about every 3 hours.
    • Feed him too soon and his schedule will get messed up.
    • If he’s happy or sleeping he can go longer than 3 hours with no problem.
  • Sleeping
    • He often wakes up before its time to eat.  (For example he might wake up unhappy but its only been 1.5 hours since he ate.)
      • He might have just been uncomfortable
      • Check diaper
      • Check temperature

        • too hot and he will feel hot, be sweating, and/or be red with a possible heat rash (little red bumps) on his chest/back.
        • too cold and he will feel cold
      • He might have gas (he may cry inconsolably if this is the case)
      • He may just want attention
      • You can try to rock him back to sleep (Swaddle loose, binky, bounce/rock)
      • If you think he has gas try to burp him on your shoulder for a while, and then put him on his back and move his legs like his pedaling an invisible bike. Repeat. Sometimes it can take a while to get him to pass gas.
    • If getting him back to sleep isn’t going to work you can play with him.
      • Bring him out and sit him up.
      • Try peekaboo
      • Try chatting with him on your lap
      • Try the binky
  • Eating
    • Grab and bag of milk from the freezer and put it in a bowl in the sink and let warm water run over it for a few minutes. The ice should all be melted and the milk should be warm before you put it in the bottle.
    • He usually eats 2-4 ounces from a bottle. Just let him eat till he’s done.
    • He’ll fuss a little while he’s eating. Just take the bottle out, calm him down/burp him, and try again.
    • After he eats, burp him for a long while on your shoulder and be careful for a long while. He throws up more than the average baby. After he burps he’s usually happy and ready to play for a while. You can get the biggest smiles out of him :) After a while 20-90 mins, of playing he’ll start to get fussy which is a sign that he’s getting tired, you can try to put him to bed and see how it goes.
  • Going outside
    • try to keep him out of the sun
    • you can take him out and put him in the blue vibrating seat in the shade.
    • you can take him out in the stroller, buy putting him in his carseat, putting the car seat in the stroller and securing it with the red strap over the car seat.

Jade

  • She’s two and it can be a nightmare sometimes :)
  • She likes to play outside and offering to take her out will usually fix any attitude she’s having.
    • She burns easy and needs sunscreen to go outside.
  • Food
    • She likes “juice” which is water with some apple juice added for a little flavor.
    • She likes most any fruit, yogurt, chicken nuggets (in freezer, cook in toaster oven) with ketchup, graham crackers in a bowl with milk, and any other healthy thing is fine.
  • If she’s being horrible you can send her to her room for a timeout. If she won’t stay in her room on her own you can lock her in there for a couple of minutes.
  • She has a green push bike in the garage to play with. And an electric car as well.
  • Try to avoid her watching TV or movies, but if you need to, you can get to Kids movies this way.
    • Turn on the TV, wait about a minute for it to connect to the WiFi, push the Viera Tools button, select DLNA, select the Mezzmo icon (Green arrows), select Movies, then Kids, then choose a movie. If there’s a problem hit the Exit button and start over.
  • She usually doesn’t take a nap.
