New Year's Eve 2014

The day before NYE, Jade spent all day with her friend Jiwon and had so much fun turning a diaper box into Elsa's castle. Jack helped by making a mess. We had appetizers for NYE dinner and made chicken for the missionaries. Mommy crocheted a purse for Jade, and she was in the mood for modeling. Jack wants to join the fun, of course. We sealed a time capsule with some fun facts for the kids. It'll be fun for them to see in the future.
2014 has been fun and exciting. Here's to a fun-filled 2015! Happy New Year!

Zoo Membership

We live far away from almost everything here at Baltimore, except the zoo. It's less than 10 minutes' drive from where we live. So we decided to take advantage of it and went and bought a zoo membership. For the next year, we can go to the zoo for free, and we can take a guest every time we go. So come and visit us :-)
Daddy wanted to feed the giraffe, but he didn't want to come to the feeding box. So we only took pictures with it.

The Day after Christmas

One perk about living in Baltimore is you get to play outside with a short-sleeve T-shirt the day after Christmas.
Daddy discovered this awesome playground while riding his motorcycle. We went and found it. It was very close to our house and it's super fun. We'll definitely be coming back a lot.

Christmas Letter 2014

Merry Christmas to our family and friends!

It’s been a year full of changes and excitement for us.  We packed up everything the end of May to start our adventures in Baltimore. John drove the biggest moving truck across country, while mom and I flew with the kids. As soon as we got to Baltimore, our church friends reached out and helped us settle in. We are now all settled and trying to enjoy our three years out in the east.

Jade turned 4 in August. She’s healthy, fun, kind, smart, and beautiful. She joined a preschool group with three other kids as soon as we got here in May. She loves learning and playing with her new friends. She’s also taking a ballet class and loves it. Her favorite inside activity is playing with her play dough. She can sit there and play with her play dough for hours. She also loves drawing and painting and is very good at it. She is probably the most creative one in the family so far. She loves riding her bikes and scooters outside. Daddy trained her to be a good rider.

Jack will turn two at the end of February. He is a sweet and fun little guy. He has a very different taste for food. He doesn’t like to eat any form of bread. But he loves bold flavors. One of his favorite foods is black bean and corn salsa. He loves meat and vegetables. He is growing out of his allergy to dairy products, but he’s still not a fan of it. He doesn’t like milk or cheese, but he loves yogurt, especially Greek yogurt. He is still not talking in sentences yet, but he says words, mostly Chinese words. His favorite toy is his lazar gun and fire truck rider.

John has been going to school Monday through Friday non-stop since we got here. It’s the most intense study he’s ever done. He misses his free time with the family and mountain biking, but he’s enjoying learning new things everyday. Johns Hopkins is not an easy school to attend, so we are proud of how well he’s doing with all his classes. This semester he’s working two days a week in the hospital in the psych ward, and he LOVEs it. With his background in Psychology, he’s finding himself natural at helping psych patients. He is even considering switching to Psych focus.

Sherry has been staying home with the kids 24/7. It’s been a big change for her since she’s always worked outside the home for at least a few hours everyday. But she’s enjoying being home with them. She loves teaching Jade’s preschool group, and she’s starting a playgroup for Jack as once a week as well. She’s also been teaching an online class for BYU Idaho for the past few months, and will continue to do so in the future. It’s fun to get out of her mommy role and feel professional for an hour or two everyday.

We are grateful for this opportunity to be back at school and pursue a career John is passionate about. We are grateful we have the resources to do so. We are grateful for all of your love and support. We wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Baltimore!

Love,

John, Sherry, Jade and Jack Carr

Christmas 2014

Jade got sick right before Christmas. So we've been staying put trying to get her to rest so she can be healthy for Christmas. She got to open some presents early so she could play with them while she's recovering. Jack of course had to open some too.
We made homemade lip gloss out of coconut oil, un-petroleum oil, and crystal light for all of Jade's girlfriends. We had fun making them.  We also made fudge for our neighbors and delivered them together in the rain.
We had our Christmas Eve dinner by ourselves for the first time. I made cheesecake cupcakes for the first time and they turned out perfect! Also made potato rolls for the first time and they are delicious too. We simplified the menu and everything was tasty.
Santa brought lots of gifts for our house. Apparently we've been good this year. Jade's favorite toy is her Elsa doll. Jack's was his Tonka truck, mommy's was the popcorn maker, and daddy's was his Eddie Bower down jacket.
We had Belgian waffles for the first time, and we may never go back to the non-yeast kind any more. It took a little more time and effort to get the batter ready. But it's totally worth it. Mommy made the batter the night before and it sat in the fridge over night. It's so flavorful!
Also mommy loved making the scarf for jade. I forgot how much I loved crocheting until I started it again. It took me a couple of nights to finish it. So fun!
Merry Christmas everyone!
